This weekend, in an interview with Fox News’ Geraldo Rivera, action star and conservative activist Chuck Norris pointed out that most undocumented immigrants are “good and law abiding” and even proposed a three-step plan for providing them with a path to legalization. Norris went as far to suggest that friend and political idol, Gov. Mike Huckabee (R-AK), might support his proposal:
NORRIS: A lot of my [KickStart] students parents were or are illegal immigrants. But they’re making a living here and they’re law-abiding citizens. And my solution to it is give them a work-permit for two years, and for two years — if they maintain their law-abiding status — then give them a permanent worker permit. And in three years after that, let them apply for their US citizenship.
RIVERA: We should lobby Gov. Huckabee about that. Because I say if the Republicans reached out to Latinos on the issue of immigration, I think that the Republicans would be the majority Party.
NORRIS: Oh, I think Mike would go for this.
Watch it:
It would come as a breath of fresh air if Huckabee adopted Norris’ position on immigration, but it might take some convincing. While relatively moderate on immigration during his tenure as governor, Huckabee’s immigration platform veered far to the right during his presidential campaign in 2008. Huckabee specifically signed an anti-immigrant group’s “No-Amnesty Pledge” which made clear that he opposed allowing undocumented immigrants to remain in the US and would not support a path back to the US once they were deported back to their home countries. His own immigration plan was modeled after the right-wing diatribe of anti-immigrant zealot, Mark Krikorian. Throughout his campaign, Huckabee sparred in a tit-for-tat debate with Gov. Mitt Romney over who was toughest on immigration.
It wouldn’t be easy, but Huckabee and the Republican Party would probably benefit from regaining the trust and respect of Latino voters. Several members of the GOP leadership came out of last year’s elections saying the GOP seriously needs to “change its tune” on immigration. That includes former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Republican strategist Karl Rove, Colin Powell, former Sen. Mel Martinez (R-FL), and many more.
President Obama would like to see undocumented immigrants “pay a fine, learn English, and go to the back of the line” before fixing their status.

What!? Chuck Norris is way to common-sensical! That liberal idiot!
November 9th, 2009 at 5:57 pmI have a better idea: Why don’t we just IGNORE the 10 million or so undocumented immigrants, and try to make their life as difficult as possible, fill them with fear and their U.S.-born children with resentment…
If that doesn’t work, we can round them up one by one and deport their brown asses south of the border. What about their children? Those children had no business being born to illegal parents! And the fact that they’re not turning their parents in to Homeland Security means their aiding and abetting criminals, and so they should be deported too!
Chuck Norris is a communist, Marxist stooge and he’s openly admitted to teaching martial arts to the children of undocumented immigrants!!! He should be deported too!
Legalization is nice but is only a temp fix. With so many millions of Mexicans living in the U.S., and more millions wanting to, it’s time to go for the permanent Megamerge Dissolution Solution of working with the people of Mexico to incorporate its 760K sq. mi. of territory into the U.S. as 10+ states after they dissolve their corrupt Mexican federal govt. Click the url to read the original proposal and see why a temp fix is a waste of time.
November 9th, 2009 at 6:59 pmWow!
Jerome Corsi at WND in gonna be disappointed in his big time action star and supposed supporter.
I’m not surprised at Norris’s comment. He is a common sense guy. I have always wondered why he allows his image to be used on the right wing whack site World Net Daily.
And Joe, you are a blustering HORSES ASS!!!
November 9th, 2009 at 7:24 pmOf all the ridiculous suggestions I’ve heard this one, that Republicans adopt an “immigration reform” bill that contains any whiff of “amnesty for illegals” is the most hilarious!
When your base HATES brown people and just wants to see them deported before they steal all the jobs from White America, there’s NO ROOM FOR COMPROMISE!
If any Republican adopts a position that is “soft on amnesty” the right wing of their party will destroy them.
Even George Bush couldn’t move them one inch towards a more sensible policy. Karl Rove knew in 2000 that Hispanics were the key to the future of the Republican party and that it was suicidal for them to continue to alienate them.
No good. When Latino citizens protested across America about regressive immigration policies, the right exploded with coverage about “Mexican flags” and how illegals were demonstrating! What scum! “Deport them all! Build the Wall!”
That was the end of any “reform” efforts by Republicans. Their racist base has spoken.
November 9th, 2009 at 8:16 pmAlthough it sounds rather too good to be true, at least someone is finally recognizing the work ethic and values undocumented workers bring to this nation. It would be to the advantage of our nation allowing those of us who are already working and contributing, as any other citizen in this nation, to come out of the shadows and join in the effort to pull together and come out of this recession.
Let’s hope more and more alternatives to Comprehensive Immigration Reform keep coming up and that we finally can overcome this unjust system that has created fear and alienation from one another.
Thanks for posting this.
