Rep. Steve King’s Fudged Math Sets Off Alarm: ‘5,600,000 Illegal Aliens’ Covered By ‘Obamacare’

alarmRep. Steve King (R-IA) set off an alarm this morning, warning that the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimates indicate that 5,600,000 “illegal aliens” may be covered under “Obamacare.” King’s office didn’t do much number-crunching to come up with that big, scary figure. Instead, they relied on sheer inference to reach the nitwit conclusion that millions of undocumented immigrants will be covered by a health care bill that explicitly excludes them.

King’s primitive logic is as follows:

  • 14.1 million “illegal aliens” will make up the 2019 non-Medicare population.
  • If America’s Affordable Health Choices Act is passed, 17 million U.S. residents will still be uninsured in 2019 — nearly half of whom would be undocumented immigrants.
  • That must mean that up to 8.5 million “illegal aliens” will not have health insurance by 2019.
  • 14.1 million “illegal aliens” – 8.5 million uninsured “illegal aliens” = 5.6 million “illegal aliens” covered by America’s Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009
  • However, none of the figures that King cites — including the 5.6 million number that he uses to strike fear in xenophobic hearts — are included in the CBO’s infamous health care bill projections. The CBO’s analysis does not reference the undocumented population other than to point out that the percentage of the uninsured population increases if undocumented immigrants are included in its estimates. There is no reference as to how many undocumented immigrants would be covered by the proposed health care bill because the entire CBO analysis was essentially written under the assumption that undocumented immigrants will not be eligible.

In a press release distributed this morning, King warns:

Taxpaying families, already weighed down by bailouts and massive spending bills, cannot afford to pay for health insurance for millions of illegal aliens. Hard and smart working Iowans should not be forced [typo included] pay for illegal aliens to obtain health benefits under any health care reform plan. It is wrong to reward law breakers. The American people are speaking loud and clear and saying, ‘No health care for illegal aliens.’”

Hard and smart working Iowans rest assured, there is explicit language in the bill exempting undocumented immigrants from its coverage. Sec. 242. of America’s Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009 explicitly states:

“For purposes of this division, the term ‘affordable credit eligible individual’ means, subject to subsection (b), an individual who is lawfully present in a State in the United States.”

And if there is still doubt in anyone’s mind, President Obama told Katie Couric last night that “Obamacare” should not include undocumented immigrants. Instead, Obama indicated that we need to pass comprehensive immigration reform so that the country doesn’t have an undocumented population to begin with. Watch it:

    1. Bob Hutton Says:

Huh undocumented immigrants aren’t covered under any proposal Steve King knows how torace bait in his district but telling the truth challenges him. When is the media going to write about John Tanton and his racist history? He believes the holocaust never happened and he is the Republican parties defacto data base on immigration

    2. pumaspaco Says:

He’s a whack job. He was the only MOC opposed to putting a plaque on the Capitol visitor’s center recognizing slave’s contributions to construction of the building. That speaks volumes of his motivations for this.

    3. Casey Says:

Steve King should get his facts (and his grammar) right before he makes these unfounded, hate-filled statements. Obama is absolutely right that comprehensive immigration reform is the best way to help everyone.

    4. jackie Says:

Steve King also thought the raid in Postville, Iowa was a great idea.

Talking about the border fence, he said:

“We could also electrify this wire with the kind of current that would not kill somebody, but it would be a discouragement for them to be fooling around with it. We do that with livestock all the time.”

    5. Karol Petersen Says:

unauthorized migrants are not covered under current health care proposals
humane comprehensive immigration reform should be passed to include everyone

    6. Brittancus Says:

Two paramount issues are very much prevalent on the minds of US taxpayers? Both command your attention, as they are umbilical connected? Health care and illegal immigration! In1986 hospital and ambulance services must convey care to anyone needing emergency treatment regardless of citizenship, legal status or ability to pay. Trouble is most of these are unfunded federal mandates? Because taxpayers always carry the financial weight, the hospitals, as the government overlook the costs involved or they short-change local government? Over thirty years or even longer taxpayers have unwittingly supported millions of illegal aliens, who choose to come here, knowing full well they were breaching the law. The cost is taboo when relating to the free health care, schooling to K-12, and undisclosed low income housing and other financial rewards for breaking our laws, not to forget an overcrowded penal system.

Those who appose any form of a health care agenda in most cases will be defeated financially–big time. That includes lawmakers who have a monetary interest in undermining a universal medical system, as they are apt stockholders in hospitals, clinics, drug companies and even the prosperous health insurance industry. Is it no wonder their using dirty tactics, to bombard the airwaves with outrageous half-truths, about the European and Canadian health care system, that has worked with complete harmony for decades? Illegal immigration has the same ramifications, that if Washington passes a path to citizenship, against the opinion of a larger portion of the US population, it will mean higher taxes, and rising irreversible population growth. It will pilot to a chain migration of family members that will rupture welfare benefits to all poor Americans. Everybody must have noticed the dire-straits financially that California–a Sanctuary State–has been impacted by mass illegal immigration?

Then once the word reaches outside the borders of the US, even more millions will stream across our sovereign lands, looking for work and handouts. As with Health care the open border extremist and special interest lobby, already have their orders from the cheap labor industries, to quash any new laws that have a hard-hitting effect on immigration. Democrats and certain members of the GOP have a considerable interest, in abating any laws that, would fasten the border or would inflict penalties on businesses. E-Verify are the most secure extraction mechanism to remove illegal labor from job locations. Even with unemployment rising above 10.0 percent, legislators like Sen. Reid, Pelosi, and Napolitano are part of the conspiracy to unwind any laws, such as E-Verify, local police law 287(g), Save Act, Real ID and place them with puny substitutes.

Until they have proved that these new enforcement laws actually work such as Schumer’s new alternative to E-Verify, that all U.S. workers to verify their identity using fingerprints or digital photos Homeland Security should keep upgrading E-Verify and not–REPLACE IT? WE MUST CONSTANTLY RELAY OUR ANGER AND DISAPPOINTMENT TO OUR SENATORS AND REPRESENTATIVES AT 202-224-3121—BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE. WE MUST SAY NO AMNESTY! SEAL OUR BORDERS AND NO MORE FREEBIES TO ILLEGAL ALIENS. THEY ARE THE CRIMINALS, NOT AMERICANS WHO SACRIFICE TAXES? GOOGLE–NUMBERSUSA for details our government and the media have a nefarious talent, for keeping facts under wraps?

    7. Robert Gittelson Says:

Rep. King is “King of the Fuzzy Math.” I remember the speech that he gave in 2007 on the House floor, railing against illegal immigrants. He claimed to have a plan. He stated that according to his stats, there were approximately 5.5 million illegal immigrants in our workforce. However, he concluded that since they were mostly low wage workers, they really only counted as about 2.2 million. He therefore estimated that if the rest of us were willing to work an extra 11 minutes per day, we could make up for all of the “illegals” and deport them. He went on to further conclude that according to his plan, if everyone was just willing to work an extra 5.5 minutes through their morning coffee break, and another 5.5 minutes through their afternoon coffee break, it would entirely solve the problem of illegal immigration.

I am serious! He really stood on the floor of the House and said all of that with a straight face. He actually believed that he was right! The really scary thing, is that Rep. King is not only the senior Republican of the Immigration Subcommittee, but he is also on the Agricultural Subcommittee, so he really should know better. It is a sad commentary on the state of our political system, when a man like King could not only get elected, but somehow manage to hang onto his job long enough to become the senior Republican on a committee, let alone a subcommittee of the Judiciary.

    8. Delaware Bob Says:

Illegal aliens have made America the dumping ground for all their illegal alien children, then we have to school them and give them free medical care.

How can you ILLEGALLY enter this Country and be rewarded with the precious gift of U.S. citizenship for a crime that the ILLEGAL ALIEN has committed by ILLEGALLY trespassing onto this Country. It makes no sense to me.

Talk about needing comprehensive reform, how about putting an end to this BS! Why should Americans pay for all this criminal activity? Just who do these ILLEGAL ALIENS think they are? Yes, who?

I for one, am sick and tired of these ILLEGAL ALIENS snubbing their nose at our immigration laws and the many other laws of this Country. If our Federal Government can not ENFORCE our immigration laws, and get these ILLEGAL ALIENS out of this Country, then let the States do it! One way or another, an end has to come to this illegal immigration, and not with AMNESTY! Amnesty will only encourage more ILLEGAL ALIENS to invade our Country and reward those who broke our laws and raped the American taxpayer in many ways…depressing our wages, taking our jobs, overwhelming our schools with their ILLEGAL ALIEN children, driving without a license or car insurance, all the crime from stolen identities to rape, drugs and everything else.

It’s time for ZERO TOLERENCE with these ILLEGAL ALIENS. It’s time for them get out of this Country and back in their own Country where they belong. When we get rid of the ILLEGAL ALIENS, we will get rid of all the problems that go with them.

      Go get them, Sen. King.

    9. RI Dave Says:

Agree whole heartedly with Delaware Bob. Why should people who break the law get rewarded at our expense? How does the President of the US, who works for the US Taxpayer get the moxey to tax us for people who walk accross the border?
These are public officials who work for the citizens of this country, not the other way around. Why should my elderly aunt be refused a hip replacement, but yet give it to an illegal alien instead. Not only is it unfair, it is criminal.
