Unfortunately, seeing your favorite enemies spoiling for a fight is no guarantee that anything important is at stake. Most advocacy groups (but especially those who feel like the status quo is the best outcome they can hope for) will happily spend time fighting over symbolic crap where very little is at stake. Gets your opponents to waste time and resources winning irrelevant battles.

There's an alternative to political bickering over how powerful a new consumer protection agency should or shouldn't be: pay people a living wage, which makes them less susceptible to the vulnerable practices from which they need to be protected. We all, allegedly, believe in providing incentives, right? A real wage might be a good place to start.
