It seems this is going to end up being like every other time the right goes on the warpath. They start out screaming and just get louder and more crazy until they've gone too far and then try to backpeddle. But by then it's too late and they've made themselves look as foolish and stupid as possible. Is it any wonder why more and more people refuse to admit out loud they belong to the Republican party? Case in point, Nancy Pelosi.

Oh, I love this! Pat Buchanan wants conservatives to "stand up for the white working class." Here are a few ways conservatives have "stood up" for the working class, white and otherwise. Since 1980, they have:
--gutted legal protections for union organizing and appointed anti-union administrators to the National Labor Relations Board to the point at which fewer than 10% of private-sector workers are unionized;
--seriously weakened workplace health and safety protection by adding all sorts of exceptions to legislation and by drastically underfunding OSHA inspection and enforcement;
--helped to defund public transportation;
--done everything possible, including tax breaks, to encourage corporations to export what were decently paid and often union jobs to low-wage zones abroad;
--made it more difficult for workers to sue employers for age and gender discrimination (half of all workers are women, and white workers get old too).

In other words, Pat Buchanan's concern for the "white working class" is disingenuous, racist, hypocritical hot air. "Conservatives" in America today are about one thing: conserving the wealth and privilege of the (almost all white) wealthy and privileged class. When you hear them start spouting about the oppression of the "white working class," expect the swastika and the white hood to be close behind those words.

My problem isn't with Buchanan or any of the other many right-wing white-guy neanderthals.

My problem is with the absence of Democrats saying anything to the contrary. I know, I know, the strategy is to give the neanderthals time to hang themselves with their crap. Only, this being America, the masses will start believing the crap unless somebody says something else.
