I am embarrassed for Rep.SCALISE.
La enacted Act 12 that is the building code for La.
This code meets all Federal requirements so La could recieve the Katrina FEMA re-build monies.
This bill under consideration would have no effect in La.
Look at his letter writers La Home Builders Ass.
They represent less than half of the builders in La.
About 70% of re-building are by home-owners not these letter writers

While I'm a proponent of green building standards, there are a lot of issues with setting national guidelines. There are issues with defining performance standards, which the nation's pre-eminent green building council, the USGBC (which governs the LEED standard), currently does not do. In fact there have been recent reports of LEED buildings performing worse than non-LEED buildings from an energy standpoint (http://tinyurl.com/c7axf7). It's important to understand that different buildings require different standards and different regions require standards. Legislating national standards without going through the various scenarios would risk making the problem worse, not better.

I'm confused about this. I don't have time to read through the whole thing, but if he's right, he certainly has a point (even if the Hitler thing is going a little far). Does the bill or does it not contain a provision allowing the feds to come into your home, forcefully remove you, and charge you with a crime for every day you lived there simply because your state failed to update its building codes?

@Antonio: You can always find a dissenter. Fred Singer is "famed" precisely because he is one, and there really aren't very many prominent scientists who take that position. The site you linked that claims 30,000 scientists opposed seems to have a very low bar for "scientist." By their definition, I am qualified to sign just because I have a B.S. in Computer Science, and I assure you that such things are way outside my expertise. Also, I don't know of many people (certainly no top scientists) who would bestow the label of professional scientist to someone without a doctorate from a research university. I can find people with undergraduate degrees from state universities who think all kinds of things--for example, I knew someone who was dropped out of an astronomy class in protest (and went on to complete a degree in physics) because the professor refused to acknowledge the possibility that the earth is 5,000 years old and sits motionless at the center of the universe. According to your website, I am now to take him on equal footing with Stephen Hawking?

Ah, the good Dr. S. Fred Singer....noted global warming skeptic - and joining Dr. Linzen, the other oft-cited global warming skeptic "expert" - in having denied a link between tobacco and cancer. Why am I not surprised he'd be opposing any environmentally friendly legislation. From Wikipedia (but any google search will have the same info):

"In 1995, as President of the Science and Environmental Policy Project (a think tank based in Fairfax, Virginia) S. Fred Singer was involved in launching a publicity campaign about "The Top Five Environmental Myths of 1995," a list that included the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's conclusion that secondhand tobacco smoke is a human carcinogen. Shandwick, a public relations agency working for British American Tobacco, pitched the "Top Five Myths" list idea to Singer to minimize the appearance of tobacco industry involvement in orchestrating criticism of the EPA. The "Top Five Environmental Myths" list packaged EPA's secondhand smoke ruling with other topics like global warming and radon gas, to help minimize the appearance of tobacco industry involvement in the effort. According to a 1996 BAT memo describing the arrangement, Singer agreed to an "aggressive media interview schedule" organized by Shandwick to help publicize his criticism of EPA's conclusions.[17]
[edit]
Oil Industry Contractor
In a September 24, 1993, sworn affidavit, Dr. Singer admitted to doing climate change research on behalf of oil companies, such as Exxon, Texaco, Arco, Shell and the American Gas Association. [2]
However, on February 12, 2001, Singer wrote a letter to The Washington Post in which he denied receiving any oil company money in the previous 20 years when he had consulted for the oil industry.

i think our friend Sosa here in Comments and his compatriot in the House pretty much sums up the moronic remnant shreds of the republican party. what a sad state of affairs when the second largest political party in this country has reduced itself to this.

No patriotic and informed American can support the global warming/cap and trade scam, more fraudulent than any Nigerian scam. Cap and trade is a huge tax on the poor and the middle class designed to give the powers of a dictator to Obama and to further enrich his billionaire friends (Gore, Soros, Goldman Sachs, Obama’s Chicago Climate Exchange friends, GE, etc.)

Cap and Trade “would be the equivalent of an atomic bomb directed at the U.S. economy—all without any scientific justification,” says famed climatologist Dr. S. Fred Singer. It would significantly increase taxes and the cost of energy, forcing many companies to close, thus increasing unemployment, poverty and dependence.

Those brainwashed to the point of wanting to destroy the economy to "prevent global warming" remind us of primitive humans who believed that killing and sacrificing others would ensure them good weather. Human beings don't have the power to control climate!

More and more scientists and thinking people all over the world are realizing that man-made global warming is a hoax that threatens our future and the future of our children. More than 700 international scientists dissent over man-made global warming claims. They are now more than 13 times the number of UN scientists (52) who authored the media-hyped IPCC 2007 Summary for Policymakers. http://www.climatechangefraud.com/content/view/3562/218/

Additionally, more than 30,000 American scientists have signed onto a petition that states, "There is no convincing scientific evidence that human release of carbon dioxide, methane, or other greenhouse gases is causing or will, in the foreseeable future, cause catastrophic heating of the Earth's atmosphere and disruption of the Earth's climate." http://www.petitionproject.org

We pray that honest leaders – both Democrat and Republican - are able to save us from Obama's criminal global warming/cap-and-trade scam.
