Lester Feder caught up with Sen. Charles Grassley (R-IA) and asked him what he thought of the right-wing’s orchestrated smear campaign against comparative effectiveness research and electronic medical records.
Grassley, a moderate Republican voice who supports both cost-containment measures, encouraged the effort:
I think they ought to hype them right now because people’s attention needs to be brought to it, and that’s the only way you’re going to get their attention. When the dust settles, they won’t have a leg to stand on and we will have and we will have a study and a tool that will be useful for doctors to use but not to dictate medicine.
During the Kaiser Family Foundation event, Grassley also reiterated his opposition for a new public plan, and suggested that insurers should be allowed to sell policies across state lines.

Chuck Grassley, another for-profit healthcare shill. Guess who wants to tax nonprofit community hospitals, bearing a greater burden in caring for the uninsured.
That’s a longtime Federation of American Hospitals position, the unfair tax status of nonprofits.
Chuck Grassley and Max Baucus will deliver for private healthcare. Watch for no help from this Congress. CorporaDemocrats came out of the closet to support Chucky and Company.
March 19th, 2009 at 2:25 pmSenator Grassley under estimates the ability of the American People to distinguish between apples and oranges.
Sure we dislike to spend money allocated via the Original TARP bill, because it was written by/for Investment Bankers to save their own.
Healthcare is entirely different, as all Americans should have access to healthcare. If Grassley has his way, we could all buy insurance that is home based in a state that has the strictest requirements for treatment, pre-existing condition = no payment. This is just a hijacking of American dollars by the private insurance companies.
Typical for GOP elected officials who see no advantage for all Americans to have acess to healthcare. Grassley and his ilk are very short sighted (usually only looking to their next election and how to pay for it) as they don’t understand that prevention is cheaper than treatment and healthy individuals would reduce Medicaid..but that is probably too complex for him… as he gets “free” healthcare!
March 19th, 2009 at 2:30 pmAttention? 80% of Americans want their employer or the government to do more to cover the cost of health care. Leaders already have people’s attention.
Chucky’s attention is a diversion, expect bait and switch.
March 19th, 2009 at 2:30 pmDon’t understand the role of Kaiser Family Foundation being highlighted in this : Are they providing a platform for Sen. Grassley?
Has Kaiser Family Foundation taken a position with reference to the stimulus package and EMR adoption?
On one hand, Kaiser Permanante hospitals have adopted EMR’s ina big way; On the other hand, they just fired a bunch as they bring in IBM and some KP execs have diss’d President Obama’s EMR plans in public forums.
