My husband and I have decided to build a wind turbine on our property which we know will only produce five precent energy needs, still it's a start in the right direct we feel.We have read Mr.Gore works and have taken on his goal to reducing our own co2 usage of coal generated energy. My husband is a boilermaker by trade and for years has worked in the field to clean up coal burning electric power plants.Understanding that trade has shown my husband there is no true way to completely burn fossil fuel like coal, cleanly. So,we decided to the show our community how serious we are about reducing co2's in our area. Since we live on top a high ridge, the winds are many and so, we know, the wind turbine will not be a disappointment for us.We are pleased to help Mr.Gore in his quest to cleaner ways to produce energy.Thank you Mr.Gore, for all you have done to show us the way.

Please do not let the climate protection legislation get hijacked by the advocates of new nuclear power plants. While the operation of such plants is "carbon-free," any investment in new nuclear plants will actually RETARD climate protection. How? It has been demonstrated (by Amory Lovins and others) that the SAME investment in already-proven "carbon-free" energy-efficiency technologies would purchase far greater carbon-dioxide reduction, per delivered unit of useful energy --- and do it much faster, reliably, and safely too. Moreover, energy-efficiency is a relatively low-tech strategy that the world could readily and gratefully copy. Everyone needs to recognize new nuclear investment as a OBSTACLE, not a genuine aid, to climate protection.
For details, read the Lovins-Sheikh paper,"The Nuclear Illusion," at www.rmi.org --- preprint of the paper soon to be published in the Royal Swedish Academy of Science journal "AMBIO."

1Sky Urges Senators to Support Bold Climate Solutions
Takoma Park, MD – Former Vice President Al Gore is expected to urge Senators to take courageous comprehensive action to fight climate change at a hearing today in the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
Gillian Caldwell, the campaign director of 1Sky commended Sen. John Kerry (D-MA), chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee for asking Vice President Gore to testify. Caldwell called Gore, “the leading voice of conscience on the climate crisis.” Caldwell described the Foreign Relations Committee hearing an appropriate kick-off for this challenging legislative session.
Caldwell urged Senators to adopt the 1Sky solutions to global warming when they are drafting legislation to promote clean energy and reduce global warming pollution. Caldwell said, “There is a growing consensus around these bold solutions to the climate crisis, based on the best science available: Create 5 million green jobs. Cut carbon pollution by at least 35% by 2020, and by 80% by 2050. Stop all construction of new coal plants, and repower America on renewable energy.”

She said that there are three main legislative vehicles that are expected to move this year to transform America’s economy to a cleaner brighter future: The economic recovery package, the climate change legislation and the energy bill. “This year will be one of hard work for everyone who cares about repowering America and transforming our economy and our future. But we can do it by working together.”

1Sky activists have been contacting their Senators to ask for a clean and green recovery package that will create five million green jobs.

1Sky is collaborative national campaign for bold climate policy. 1Sky's allies include more than 350 organizations from all sectors of society and over 130,000 committed climate advocates who support the 1Sky policy platform.

1Sky is also funding 25 organizers spanning 20 states, and has more than 150 Congressional districts covered by volunteer Climate Precinct Captains.
