No Diane, but they might complain about the price.
This would all make so much more sense if there were
in fact a true consensus on global warming:
Based on everything I'm seeing the debate is just now
(dare I say it) starting to heat up...LOL

Perhaps they could reduce the "chaos and confusion if they made only vehicles that met or surpassed the stronger regulations put into place by the 14 states? I am pretty confident nobody in the remaining 36 would complain that their cars were not emitting enough pollution...

That's what they said about catalytic coverters, the Clean Air Act, the Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990, and every other environmental law or regulation that stood to affect them. Why doesn't anybody ever point this out?

I don't get it. Within the last year, we saw gas prices soar. Since the 1960's we have acknowledged the need to clean up our air, and have focused on fossil-fueled vehicle emissions as a key part of that effort.

What is so hard about understanding the need for better fuel efficiency? Why is it so hard for the auto industry to grow up and act like grown-ups and LEAD on this issue? I hate it when the government has to step in to make industry be a good citizen, but these guys' piggish recalcitrance and poor corporate citizenship gives me no interest whatsoever in saving their industry. Better to tear it down in true free market style and let new firms that understand consumer and societal needs step in. Auto industry lobbyists? To hell with them.
