We wish Robert the best of luck and thank him for his contributions.

Congrats Robert! Now do what you can to end “pay for performance” in education. The nation saw what CEO incentive pay and commissions did to our financial sector.
Tell your OMB friends responsible for health care as well. I think teachers and doctors are as smart as Wall Street CEO’s. Think of the suboptimization coming, when they learn how to game the system.
One need only study the most pure form of executive incentive compensation, stock option grant awards. 30% of executive teams cheated, broke the law, to maximize their pay.
Extrinsic motivators distort any system. Don’t spread the poison, Robert.
January 19th, 2009 at 9:46 pmI remember calling that office last month and asking what the plan was to get people off food stamps. The person I talked to couldn’t think of anything. She told me she was working on legislation for other offices. I can’t think of a better office to staff with a wonk.
