But earlier this year, he strayed from his forte to compare Iraq to the Revolutionary War. On ABC's "This Week", Gingrich compared Democratic candidates call for signs of success in Iraq before committing even more U.S. troops (iirc), to: "What if the French had refused to help the Colonists until they proved they could win first." Problem is, <strong>THAT IS EXACTLY</strong> what France said during the Revolutionary War, and didn't commit any troops until George Washington's midnight raid on Christmas Eve where his troops crossed the Delaware (see: famous painting) to defeat Prussian (aka: German) forces aiding the British. <strong>Gingrich's credentials as a "historian" are seriously questionable.</strong> Gingrich is a self-declared “Civil War” historian.
