I was struck at the Palin rally by how members of the crowd start booing just when they hear the name Rashid Khalidi. Since this is hardly a household name, I believe they are booing simply at the foreign sounding name. When Palin reveals that Khalidi is affiliated with the PLO (a bald faced lie) the crowd begins to boo outright. This reveals a strain of xenophobia that the McCain/Palin campaign should hardly be proud of, but instead they seem to actively flame this shallow bigotry.
