In light of the financial sector meltdown, Obama needs to revisit his pay-for-performance plan for health care. Extrinisic motivation systems distort behavior.

Physician friends suggested paying for outcomes will cause doctors to restrict their practices to healthy patients.

McCain's plan has mostly healthy people getting insurance. P4P means mostly healthy people getting doctor care. We could have a health care system accessible to well people, with the sick shut out or at extreme financial risk.

McCain wants to make financing health care as complex as the delivery system itself.

He should know American's health literacy is low. Apparently our financial acumen isn't much better, given the current debacle on Wall Street.

Divide and conquer shouldn't apply to our health care system. Super segmentation of markets works against spreading the risk across the whole population. Credit default swaps are the financial equivalent of such segmented risk. They took down our economy, almost overnight.

McCain's health care plan is melamine tainted dog food and should be taken off the shelf. Putz-Eakin can't put enought lipstick on this pig.
