I have an 11 year old son with autism. I have had to fight for services for my son since the age of 3. I wake up every night 2 times to check on him and to make sure he is still in his room. I changed diapers until he was 10, I give him meds 2 times per day, take him to and from school 20 miles away because he acts up on the bus, I have listened to hundreds of tantrums, I have seen the public look at my son with critical eyes because he doesn't "look disabled". He has suffered abuse from his father which CPS would not followup on because my son can't tell them. Autism is a difficult condition not only for the family but for the children. They are not as warmly accepted as a down syndrom person, maybe someday that will change.
My life revolves around autism, 24 hours per day and has since my son was very young... You cannot tell me Sarah Palin knows what I and other moms to special needs kids go through because she has an infant with down syndrom. That is truly out of touch and proves to me John McCain and Sarah Palin don't have a clue and are just trying to win political points by using the word autism.
