		<description>There needs to be a giant Jumbotron elevated above the crowds at the Republican National Convention, running stories like this:

&lt;em&gt;Congressman Newt Gingrich, professor and historian, claims that Governor Palin is &quot;…the first journalist ever to be nominated… …for the President or Vice President.&quot;

Nice try, Newt. Vice President Gore, and Presidents Fairbanks, Taft and Harding all had been journalists before they were nominated.&quot;&lt;/em&gt;

This is what Republicans do: they trot out self-appointed but widely recognized experts in a field to pontificate about things. They make statements which bear little or no relationship to the truth, but the do not care. It&#039;s the message—the underlying point that they are attempting to make—that matters.

Who needs facts? They just seem to get in the way. Besides, liberals use facts, and we all know that you cannot trust those damned liberals…</description>
