Today, in a Washington Times op-ed, Bill O’Reilly complains that if President Bush’s tax cuts “on those making $250,000 or more” are repealed, “me and other rich folks” — who as “part of the 1 percent of Americans that paid an astounding 40 percent of all federal income tax in 2006″ — would have to finance “folks who dropped out of school, who are too lazy to hold a job, who smoke reefers 24/7“:
That means people who drink gin all day will get some of my hard-earned money. Folks who dropped out of school, who are too lazy to hold a job, who smoke reefers 24/7 all will get some goodies in the mail from UncleBarack and Aunt Nancy, funded by me and other rich folks.
O’Reilly’s characterization of the 99% of Americans who earn less than $250,000 a year notwithstanding, his argument that the richest Americans are overburdened by taxation is demonstratively false. According to Internal Revenue Service data, “the share of income reported by the very wealthy has risen faster than the group’s share of income taxes.”
In fact, “the average tax rate of the wealthiest 1% fell to its lowest level in at least 18 years,” allowing the wealthiest 1% of Americans to garner “the highest share of the nation’s adjusted gross income for two decades, and possibly the highest since 1929.” The “average tax rate in 2006 for the top 1%, based on adjusted gross income, was 22.8%,” down from “28.9% in 1996, and…24% in 1988″:

Transfer. This is a technique of projecting positive or negative qualities (praise or blame) of a person, entity, object, or value (an individual, group, organization, nation, patriotism, etc.) to another in order to make the second more acceptable or to discredit it. This technique is generally used to transfer blame from one member of a conflict to another. It evokes an emotional response which stimulates the target to identify with recognized authorities.
This and other techniques used my Mr. Propaganda loud mouth can be found in: US Army Psychological Operations Field Manual No.33-1
This manual lists every trick used by Oreily and FOX. It is a Psyops operation used against Americans.
This is why no one ever gives a damn when their arguments are faulty – it’s not an argument – it’s psychological warfare.
July 29th, 2008 at 5:02 pmYes, Bill, all poor people are only poor because they are lazy dopers. We get it.
What an asshat the man is.
July 30th, 2008 at 12:01 pmThe “average tax rate in 2006 for the top 1%, based on adjusted gross income, was 22.8%,” WTF?!?! I make 44k and I pay more in taxes. How is that fair?
July 30th, 2008 at 1:08 pmfib112:
Actually, you don’t pay more that that. Making 44k a year gives you a federal income tax burden when filing single of $7,344 or about 16.7%. That is also if you didn’t spend it on anything deductable, or move some of your pretax income to a retirement account (a smart move).
Please get your facts correct before you go spouting off about how you pay more in taxes than other people.

July 30th, 2008 at 1:38 pmI think, for the most part, this man (O’Reilly is a loudmouthed fool. However, there are some kernels of value in what he’s saying:
Some people on public assistance DO in fact abuse the system (not all, but not 1 or 2 either) and if there’s a cost effective way to ensure they’re using MY money appropriately, I’m all for it. My spouse is a family doctor and she has TONS of people who come to her office that are on public assistance that want drugs (percoset, vicodin, etc) to either take or sell for $10/pill. That’s MY MONEY!
I think we should include some checks in the system to stem abuse on both sides – eliminate all of the ridiculous loopholes that currently exist for high net worth individuals as well as making sure that food stamps aren’t used to buy Kool-Aid…
July 30th, 2008 at 1:46 pmWhat do you expect from a man who listens to Bill O’Reilly?
All others who do so, beware? I did not know I am such a lazy bastard.
What about creating a country for just the rich ones? The rich 1%? In fact, what about giving them any two states of their choice?
Let them go there and clean their own toilet, wipe their children’s asssss, and farm their own food.
No. No. No. What about having them buy a country of their own. After all, Bill can afford an Island.
It is bad as it is to be a whiner. Worse if you are a rich whiner.
