Meanwhile, billions upon billions of dollars -- increasingly, including funds which we're borrowing hand over fist -- have been thrown into the War In Iraq with a dismally low amount of oversight and accountability. Growing numbers of Americans, even those who refuse to believe that The United States would or could ever do something as despicable as knowingly invade another country under false pretenses for our own benefit, are viewing the War In Iraq as having been a mistake. One has to ask oneself...how much of the money that can't be adequately accounted for in Iraq could have been put towards addressing the problem of climate change? Quite a lot, I imagine -- and some of it could also have been helpful in addressing other problems, such as our infrastructure (Minneapolis, anyone?). If Bush wanted to have any credibility about "running up enormous costs for future generations", he should have put much more effort into making certain that all the money which we've been pouring into Iraq was going where it was supposed to go. Exactly where has a lot of it gone, anyway? One thing seems safe to assume...at least some of it is lining the pockets of people who aren't entitled to it.

Bush is acting much like the corrupt executive of a large corporation who lays off a portion of his workers because he claims that the company can't afford them, then uses the money he saves to give himself a pay raise -- plenty of money for whatever he considers important, none to spare for anything he doesn't.
