I agree with you, Sarah, up to a point, that being that the Chrysler offer is limited to 12,000 miles per year for the three years. This, in theory at least, might incentivize customers to drive fewer than 12,000 miles, whereas the average driver today puts 15,000 miles per year on his or her vehicle, according to WikiAnswers. Since the trucks that are covered by this offer are already built, it could work out that the overall effect on the environment is a net plus, rather than a net negative. Not so?

why should they be discouraged from making a profit? i'm as much an environmentalist as anyone else, but on principle I hate the idea of railing against a company trying to make profits just because it isn't socially responsible. With Detroit hurting so badly, I welcome their attempts to be more profitable.

Dodge is the best truck made..I have 5 of them for my work crews as its hard to tow a backhoe with a Prius. We work the crap out of them every day. Pulling, hauling many times to the max and that Cummins diesel is in a class of its own.....NEVER any problems. We tried A Nissan and a Toyota Tundra. When you work then as hard as we do they just cant take it and are broke down all the time............

Not to worry. What person, still working, could afford these gas guzzlers purchase price? BTW, my 2004 Dakota, V6, gets 15 mpg city, 19 highway, with a tail wind, down hill, in neutral.

I read in the NYT that Nissan will begin selling EV's in the US beginning 2010 (limited production of course) & GM to follow when they get around to it.
