Dave28, judging by your condescending and sexist rhetoric, I doubt that you would ever admit the errors of your ways. Nonetheless, I feel it appropriate to point out that the arsenic report did in fact take into account all of those other concerns. Have you even read it? A cost-benefit analysis is precisely the mechanism with which any person or organization is able to determine whether a given action or policy is the correct one. "Cost" does not equal "dollars" - Econ 101. Regarding your point about people taking action only when someone close is harmed, you are correct. But as this blog is about Mr. Burnett, I suggest you look at his actual record and involvement with environmental issues before you open your mouth. And finally, your tone and sarcasm is really quite immature. I hope this approach isn't really the way you intend to make your difference in this world.

lauren...your lack of care far outreaches any validity within your comments. Did you decide not to include the standards/calculations/results of injurious impact, you know, people who don't die but get sick? No, because it doesn't serve YOUR cause.

Anyone who cares about (human) life knows that the gov'ts role is to protect its people, not cost-benefit analysis its people into areas of risk and harm. Really, it is individuals ignorant to the role of gov't who put us all at risk via "lawyer environmentalism" and "corporate favoritism", and by supporting those who mean to do us harm for profit. It usually takes someone from your own circle - family/friends - becoming harmed before you'll figure out what many already know, that the fight is a good one and corporations will send us to our graves if they can make a profit at it.

The short version (sorry to have wasted your time) is - your head is planted in your backside, deary....ignoring imminent danger is a sign of intelligence...condoning those who collude to harm is spitting on humanity...

Your accusations are shameful and wrong. If you actually read the report about arsenic, you would see that the authors argue the rule "is likely to result in a net LOSS of about ten lives annually." I realize you failed to mention that because it undermines your argument, but you should have nonetheless. Regarding mercury and soot, I fail to even follow your accusatory logic. And finally, did you even bother to understand WHY Burnett stepped down from the EPA? Your suggestion of "climate content" shows how ignorant and uninformed you are.

Jason, don't worry about your unemployment problem. I've heard the American Enterprise Institute is looking for fellows and scholars. Please apply.
