I never intended to spend my "economic stimulus" check stimulating the economy. I was going to use it to pay down some bills. Now, I'm not even going to get to do that.

No, it's not going into my gas tank. I just received a notice from my health insurance carrier that my premiums have been raised. Even if I receive the maximum "stimulus," it still won't cover my raised rates.

Hmmmm, here's an obvious but very intentionally ignored idea.
How about massive cuts in government and payroll cuts for all members of any government office.
Shut down the pentagon black hole and see how much money gets freed up
Actually, how about if all elected people in office get minimum wage and must wear polyester service uniforms like at mcwendys, complete with hats and name tags.

President Bush himself last week invoked "rising gas prices" when talking about the decision to start mailing "stimulus checks" now instead of waiting one more week till May.

The obvious suggestion here then is, why not cut the checks DIRECTLY to the oil companies in return for a promise to cut gasoline by $0.25 a gallon? Because that's where all the money is going to go anyway.
